I've noticed that a lot of spoon manufactures put single hooks on their products while others put trebles. When it comes to walleyes, what are the pro's/con's of trebles vs. single hooks?
thanks,

About nine or ten years ago, I thought that I could hold more fish with a big 4/0 Siwash hook instead of the stock treble. What I found was that I was losing more fish with the single. The big hook was tearing a huge hole in the membrane between the walleye's lip and his face. A little slack and the fish was gone.I went back grudgingly to trebles and my catch ratio went up. When Reef Runner started using the VMC Outbarbs on their lures, I switched alot of my spoons to Outbarbs for walleyes. These hooks are not strong enough for Salmon and Steelhead in Lake Ontario. For there I use Eagle Claw Lasers in either 2x or 4x especially on my Stingers and Scorpions. They have good VMC hooks, but those silvery jumpy things have a way of destroying hooks. The bottom line is that I would rather have a good sharp treble on my spoons than a big sharp single.
