I have been fishing walleye for a couple of years.
Never used crawdads for bait, how do you rig them on your hook?

I've used them in a pinch when out of bait and they work fine. I tear off the tail and then peel it like a shrimp and put it on a jig. But keep it fresh.

I have used them and had good luck at times. I always take my pliers and pinch of their pinchers at the very first joint behind the pincher otherwise they have a tendancy to get all tangled up in the line. I fish them on a live bait rig using a # 4 hook, about a four-five foot snell and just enought weight to get them down. I hook them right in the end of the tail. Make sure that you put the hook up because when a fish bites they will curl down so you will not get a hook set if the hook is down. If you pay attention and use a sensitive rod, they will warn you if a fish is looking them over. Make sure that you feed plenty of line once you get bit... Good luck!!!!
