View Full Version : North Dakota Walleyes
Four men and two boys are looking for a week of walleye fishing in North Dakota. We've been fishing in Ontario for fifteen years(camping on an island) but we're considering a trip that is not quite so tough on boats and gear. We've been told that reservoir fishing can be a real hoot. Can anyone steer us toward information on walleyes on the reservoirs? We would also appreciate info on camping possibilities, bait frequently used, guide services etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks...Mils

On the south (or west) side of Sakakawea is Dakota Waters Resort (701)873-5800 -- or, on the north side is Indian Hills Resort (701)743-4122.
Indian Hills is in a prime location for most of the season. And, walleye pro Johnnie Candle guides lives and guides there. You can access his website thru Walleye Central.
Sakakawea is an incredible body of water.

Visit www.fishingbuddy.com for information on lake Sakakawea in reference to fishing reports, lodging, guides and water levels.
As far as the other post on Jonnie Candle I believe he has moved to Devils Lake ND but may still guide on occasion on Sakakawea.
Try the above mentioned web page. Lots of useful information on what you are looking for.

Dakota Waters is an awsome place. Not fancy but very clean. The owners are very nice and always ready to offer tips. There are plenty of guides out of garrison and bismarck. Call the chamber of commerce or call Dakota Waters for a recomendation.

Yes, Johnnie does now reside in Devils Lake, ND and yes he still would guide on Lake Sakakawea. I would recommend where ever you decide to stay you call soon. My personal favorite is Indian Hills Resort. Won't find any finer people than Byron and Tolly. The summer should be a good one and I can't wait to fish the PWT tourney there in June.
E-mail or call me at 701-662-3935 for more information.
Keep the line tight,

I would recommend Indian Hills Resort. They have great accomodations and you can fish anywhere on Lake Sak from there. Byron and Tolly are # 1 hosts. If you are looking for a guide, I would definitely contact Johnnie Candle. If you are looking for someone to enjoy a day of fishing with, you can't go wrong. Even though I fish the lake almost every weekend in the summer, my wife and I still like to spend a day out of our own boat and let someone else do the driving and learn some new techniques. Johnnie will teach you the way to fish the lake as well as explain why. Can't go wrong with the area as well as using Johnnie to show you the lake. Welcome to North Dakota.
wasn't that you that married the owner's daughter at indian hills?
mils, it depends on what time of year you come to decide what part of sakakawea to fish... don't forget about devils lake either, great fishing
