I am moving to north western Mi. in a few weeks and want to hook up with someone who can show me the ropes and maybe fish a few tournaments with. I have a new boat all ready to go. Will be near Traverse City. You can post here or email me.
Thanks!

We vacation up there every summer. We have done well for walleye and smallmouth in Boardman Lake and River,,,, right in town. Launch is by wastewater treatment plant and lake is not heavily used due to "rustic" launch facilities. Plant and launch are behing the train station. Can't remember exact road names or I'd tell you them,,sorry.

Check out Long Lake too. We found it last year driving around and there were a LOT of local fisherman pounding that lake. Again,, rustic launch and not good parking but also heard at tackle shop it was hot fishing then. We were there in August so I'd think spring would be dynamite on the waters.

We have always fished Lake Leelanau when up there too. Our sucess there has been spotty. Mayfly hatches and warm water seem to give us fits every summer. Have heard it's much better to fish earlier in the year before it gets too hot. We have caught several gar pike there. Only place I can say that. Not a big fish or great fighter but unusual to look at. It is also known for it's Brown trout and Smallmouth fishing.

Hope you find a compatible partner and enjoy the area. I know we do when we're there. Ask around at local tackle shops for possible leads or to meet people. I think the one we go to is called "The Tackle Box". Ask for Dave Rose. He is a Guide in the area. He was real helpful and knowledgeable. Probably can lead you to a local club or organization and you'll have a chance to find fishing partners there. Good luck.
