View Full Version : Short Shank Trebles or Reg?

I am replacing hooks on plugs and have really liked the triple grip hooks. Is there a reason to use short shanks or is there a reason to use the regular size? I fish the Columbia and remember somebody posting an answer to my question over a year ago to go with short shanks. I guess my brain lost that bit of information. I am ready to order a 100.....

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

If the lure came with regular shank hooks replace it with the same. If it came with short shank hooks and you replace them with regular shank hooks you will probably experience some tangling of the hooks. Changing to a different size or shank length will also affect the action of the lure causing a different "tune" to the lure. This isn't always bad. Have you tried Eagle Claw's Kahle treble? Wider bite than the triple grip and a stronger hook.
