I was wondering what you all have found to be the best method of selling your boats (local paper, internet sites, bulletin boards, etc.). I have been trying to sell my boat for three weeks through Boat Trader Online which includes an add in a local weekly boats for sale magazine. Not one tire kicker yet. Because it is a walleye boat, I have been considering an add on this web site but didn't know how practical it would be to buyers in other areas. In other words, if I were the buyer, I would hate to drive a long distance to find out something wasn't right or just didn't like the boat. I got the new boat itch and just hate the idea of taking the two to four thousand dollar beating by trading it in. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks,
gb

Hey GPBrown,

I sold my last boat here on Walleye Central and am selling my current rig, right now, in the classifieds, as well.

My last boat was sold to an angler in east central South Dakota. I live in the Milwaukee Wisconsin area. I have had calls on my current boat from The Upper Penninsula of Michigan, Colorado, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Where else can you advertise your boat, not only in walleye country but literally all over the world, for one 30 dollar fee? Think about it, you'd be advertising your walleye boat, to walleye anglers on the biggest walleye web site!

Have fun......R

When I sold my last boat year, I received the most replies by listing it at local bait shops. I did have the boat listed on Boat Trader on-line and received (3) calls after I sold (within 4 days). The biggest difference I found selling quickly versus others is a quality presentation of a clean and recently maintained boat.

My advertisement had (3) pictures on it with a link that could go to an internet site to display more pictures. The boat was spotless, gave clear detailed information, and was honest. Good luck.

I live in Eau Claire, WI. Bought my current 620 from OH (600 miles away); sold my last three boats to guys from 60, 350 and 650 miles away. All on WC. It's the best group of used boats on the market and if you don't find what you're looking for here, you must be looking for some type of specialized boat.

You'll never find a better place to advertise your boat than WC

Another great site to sell boats is "traderonline.com". I live in Illinois and I listed a Boston Whaler and had it sold within 6 weeks. Had 75 calls from 30 states - Washington, Flordia, New York, Michigan, California etc... The power of the internet is really incredible.

The real key to selling about across the internet is to put up a website with lots of high quality photos showing all conceivable angles of the boat. When interested buyers contact you about the boat you can direct them to your website where they can view all aspects of your boat in detail. You can alson register your website with search engines.

By the way I also bought a used boat across the internet from the state of Washington.

If you need anyother information drop me an email.

GP-

I also agree that the the web is a great way to sell a boat. I would not get discouraged by a lack of interest at this point. I live in the Twin Cities and it's about a month early for used boats.

I do know from experience, that placing an ad in the local paper will get you a fair price for your boat in the first weekend. Again, we're about a month away from the prime selling time.

Good Luck!

If your boatis in good condition, and priced in the fair market value range you should have no problem selling it. A very good place to start would be on this web site. If you know an auctioneer in your area that has a lot of sales give him/her a call, that is the way I have sold my last 4 boats I buy a new boat every other year out right from dealer (which a person can get a very good deal going back to same dealer every other year and buying out right) I try to put my boat that iI want to sell on a auction in late march to late april I have always sold from $1,000. to $2,500. above what dealer was willing to give me on trade. just my thoughts it might be worth a call.

Thanks guys for the responses. I guess my skepticism of people driving long distances to buy a boat are invalid. Warmer weather is forcasted for us this week in Ohio so maybe the guys (or gals) will get itchy. I thiink I'll stand pat for a week or two to see waht happens then give WC a shot.
Thanks again,
gb

GPBrown, where do you live in Ohio. I grew up there and parentds still there. I visit 3 times a year and would like to go fish sometime when in town. They live in Cincinnati. I live in Minneasot and would gladly trade a day if you would like to come up here.

Ive been trying to buy a 17' walleye boat for some time now. Can't find the model or brand name that I want. More difficult to buy a used boat than one might think.

Ditto to what DRP said. We put ours in local paper here in Twin Cities in March a few years ago on a Sunday. It was sold by Weds.

I also think here at WC is great too. I always see what's in there. A webpage with some pics would help tons. There are plenty of free websites available, the easiest probably www.geocities.com.

Good luck!

What kind of 17 footer are you looking for? Tiller or console? Brand preference? Equipment preference? Post your wants and we'll all look to find one for you.
