Anyone have any info on the new Eagle "Journey" gps plotter from LEI? Specifically, how does this unit stack up against the Lowrance 1600 model? I see Dakotamart has this unit listed for $370, quite a bit less than the Lowrance models. Thanks in advance.

I have considered this unit myself. I have not looked at it at the stores, but here is my take. This is basically the same unit as the 1600, however the 1600 comes with the CD and mapping software which I can't remember runs $129 - $149, something like that. Now do you want the software, I do. The software is downloadable from their web site, but the CD is not. One thing for sure, the Lowrance products have hte ice white light for backlighting, where the Eagle products have that backlight that doesn;t light very well. I have an X85(white light),a nd a Lowrance 310 GPS which has the poor lighting. At night, I can hardly read my GPS. Now if you don't do any fishing at night, not a big deal. To me,that light is almost worth the extra $130. I say $130 because doesn't the 1600 go for $499, or is it $599, I can't remember.
