How much water does a walleye drink in a year? Anybody know?
I know the answer and I'll post it a bit later, but i'm just seeing if anybody else has a clue.
Hint: this requires some thought and will be easier for the science dudes out there.

If I had to guess, I would say zero because osmosis draws water through their skin and into their bodies.

They filter oxygen from the water as it flows thru their gills. I guess I'd have to say they "drink" no water. If so, your answer would have to take into account the size differences, as is the case with mammals.

So ya want to be a Walleye Millionare?
I would venture a guess it does not intentionally drink water.
Through the process of feeding and ingulfing its prey it injests a large amount of water. Like soaking a spunge if it is 100 % hydrated it retains a balance internally and need never to intentionally injest water to survive.
Nope does't drink, just absorbes its needed water through soft tissues.
That's my absolute last answer.........Ah?
Can I phone a friend on this one?

You guys are right. The walleye as well as any other freshwater fish soaks up water by osmosis, due to the solute (salt) content in their bodies being way more than the water, so drinks no water intentionally (some is taken in when eating). They also emit a very dilute urin, trying to get rid of all the water they're taking on.
Salt water fish on the other hand, drink a lot of water, and emit a very highly concentrated urin.

All I know is that a walleye can out drink any bass, any day, any lake , any way. Bass are just big mouths when they drink, so who needs em.

Hey Steve!
Love it! But I'd like to add, it also depends on what neighborhood they live in. I have seen eyes in pristine lakes that were mere tea todelers. They had the good life and had no stress and were always well manered and the cream of their society.
In the Fox river in Green Bay, on the other hand, well they are some really mean, drunken Hombres!! I have seen more walleye all pi$$ed up on Tequilla and foul tempered there, than anywhere. And look at the rats nest of a river they live in. Industrial, olds ruins of past shipping and manufacturing businesses. Their neighborhood is in shambles, there is no employment, so they drink. A lot!
Ever get a Fox River eye in your boat? Mean nasty drunken sots! Thrashing all over the place, making a mess, trying to pick a fight, it is not nice! :P
Have fun......R

I heard those Fox River Eyes have lots of liver problems. I am sure it comes from mixing Tequilla and PCBs.

Drink or not drink, one thing is for sure.Even if the walleye disappear, this board would still survive just for the humor content LOL Maybe "HUMOR CENTRAL"
Thanks for the laughs, guys, that was a good thread. :-)

Hey Bottom feeder,
I have seen eyes in the fox withntheir faces in drain pipes that were gushing foamy green water. Man the were jinked up! You know how a walleyes eyes glow in the light at night? Well, night fishing on the Fox is so popular as the walleyes eys glow all the time! Like little underwater beacons!! And they say chemical introduction is bad for fish!!! LOL.........:P
All in fun.......R
