I bought a lowrance X-85 sonar last year and had a hard time finding the thermocline with it. I have heard if you go to deepest part of the lake and turn up the sensitivity this would work, but would you also turn up the grayline to pick up the heavier water on the bottom? Anyone have any ideas or settings they use to pick up the thermocline? thanks in advance
If you turn up the sensitivity up it will show you the thermocline wherever it is, the greyline is just for fish on the bottom, as far as the heavier water, it wont show it, just where the 2 meet, sometimes it will be a broken bunch of lines, and other times it will be a solid line very thick and dark. if the fish i d is on, you will have a steady stream of fish head to tail at the same depth. i hope this helps. have fun. good luck and good fishin.

Check out www.lowrance.com. They have a tutorial that shows this as well as several other things.

thanks for the info. I will try it as soon as the water warms up.
