I'm sure there have been posts about this in the past, but I have a question: When you spool fireline, power pro or spiderwire, do you spool the entire spool with it or do you start with mono? If you start with mono, what type of know do you tie the two with?

You need to spool on some mono before adding the superline or the superline will slip on the spool. Fill abou 1/4 of the spool with the same lbs test mono as superline and then spool on the superline. I've always used back to back uni knots to connect the two lines and have had no problems. Good Luck! Fred
It really depends what size of spool you have as to how much mono backing you use. It doesn't matter what lb test of mono either since you wont be using it. Lets hope not anyway. One tip is to make sure that the backing is put on tight so that the fireline does not cut into it and get snarled. I usually fill the spool of baitcasters to within a 1/4 inch of full. The fireline doesn't take up much space. Spinning reels I use much less.
As the previous post notes the uni to uni knot is what I preferr also. I also use it if I want to tie on a mono leader to my fireline.

Alright, here comes the stupid question: What is the uni to uni knot?
Go to the Walleye Central main page. In the third paragraph there is a HTML sticker for "Knot Page". Click on it and voila!
