Do these 2 lakes in northern Michigan have walleyes? If so, are they good fishing or just have a token population?
Any appreciation would be great.
Houghton lake is a large shallow inland lake (somewhat stained) that has tons of fish and quite a few people. This lake has a lot of panfish, perch, walleye and pike and bass; Houghton also has tons of weeds - if you're a troller you may get frustrated at times.
Higgins is also a large inland lake but is cold, deep, spring fed and clear. This lake is mainly known for it's trout and perch but other species are in there as well (havn't heard anything on walleyes).
I'm sure someone else can add more

Houghton has a great walleye fishery. You have to be there before school gets out in early June and the cottagers begin using the lake for things other than fishing. There is a good trolling bite in the weedlines and then try slipbobbers right in the weeds. Some nice bass and panfish there too.
both lakes are available in the fishing hotspots maps if you want to come up with a plan of attack before hitting the water.
Disclosure: i am not affiliated in any way with fishing hotspots, just find their maps very useful.

Houghton Lake has a big problem with Milfoil right now, It's causing problems for many boaters and really cut into my fishing success last year. At this time I don't even plan on going there this year unless I hear something has changed.
