What's the best rod holder that mounts on hand (safety) rails? The boat is a 617 Ranger, if that makes any difference. Thanks.

I'm really impressed with the Scotty you just have to but the optional rail kit.

RAM has a mounting clamp that works well on a rail mount system. The Ram rod holders are in my opinion the best on the market.

Get yourself the rail mount Down-Easter Salty "METAL" rod holders. They will clamp on your rail and never break! I've used them for Muskies, trolling at 5mph, pulling a 10" Believer with a 1lb. weight and had a 35lb. Muskie hit hard enough to jar your eye teeth loose and never had a problem. Don't get the model with the 2 c-clamps, get the rail mounts. They hold the rods very firm and when you get a hit, you just grab the rod and lift it straight up out of the rod holder. They have a web site, its www.down-east.com (if it doesn't come up, just put rod holders in your search engine and you'll find it) They may cost a little more than those plastic ones, but if you've ever bumped a dock and forgot to put up your plastic rod holders, you better have a lot of spares! Also, thier cheaper than losing an expensive outfit.
Good Luck, JohnP
