Is bass fishing good in spring. I always go bass fishing in summer and am wondering if it is better or worse on opening day.By the way around what time is opening day? Thanks

Opening day in Minnesota is two weeks after Mother's Day or walleye opener. Bass fishing this time of year is sensational. They normally don't school up like they would in the summer, but are typically shallower on their beds, thus easier to find. It is fairly easy to sight fish them looking for beds are shallow structure. I like to use a light jighead with a four inch salamander (a bass's natural enemy as they eat bass eggs) and flip to beds.

But remember, there is NO catch and Release fishing for Bass in MN before season. Opener is May 26 this year. Wisconsin Opener for Bass is May 5. Wisconsin DOES allow C&R for bass before season.

Yup, no fishing before the opener. I've actually done ok on the Smallmouth Bass before the season while I was slowly longlining little Husky Jerks for Crappies. For the opener: On the calmer days I've done very well with topwaters. Pop-R's, Skitter Pop's, Zara Spooks.... With a little chop, #13 floating Raps and Husky Jerks. And plastics. Power Lizards and Craws. I use the Blue Fox hidden head worm hooks. They are awesome!
