every spring i go to the launch at my favorite honey hole and pick up the garbage at the ramp. it's amazing how much junk gets littered in one year! the most startling thing for me is the amount of fisherpeople garbage that is there, worm tubs etc.

so...what do my brothers and sisters at walleye central think of this idea. A LAUNCH CLEAN-UP.

i kinda see it working like this, but any suggestions are welcome.

you pick your favorite launch, we choose a day to go out and get dirty. we each go to our individual launches we've chosen and start making it a better place. I'll be bringing my 10 yr old nephew to my ramp as a way of teaching the importance of giving back, this could be a great learning tool for the young ones.

collectively we could improve dozens of launches in 2 countries and many states! call me naive, but i think we can make a difference.

We could:
1) have a contest for the strangest piece of garbage, so bring your cameras.

2) create a press release for our local papers and get some publicity for the site.

3) present ourselves to our communities as a positive influence, unlike the anti's who usually create a disturbance.

4) What else can we do?

i usually bring a strong rake, tow strap, trash bags and gloves.
so, what do you think?

I hope launch clean-up catches on. There's one I often use on a popular area lake that could be cleaned every single day -- I go there because I use the lake, but it is amazing how little care users take of the facility -- port-a-pot included. It would take a team of ten to make a dent in the mess.

I agree, but the way the rest of the people here that like to jump all over topics like brand of boats, or motors, must not think it's a good idea, because at this time they have nothing to say. go figure that one

Every year there is a Lake Erie shore clean up in ?April?
WC could get involved in that one real easy. I have taken boy scouts to a couple of them. A great project to teach them about the environment. We teach and practice .."Leave the place better than when you came." So every outing we clean up the area we use no matter who left the trash.
