Deadeye, The answer is 2. 8 - 6 = 2.

Give Fenwick Anglers a call at 877-336-7637, and they'll tell you more about it than you can stand to hear. Unless someone fills you in here first.

Deadeye,
IM 8 should be more sensitive and expensive. Whether or not the human can tell I don't know. I also believe it is more fragil. Maybe some of the tech guys can respond with better answer. I do know that if you want to icrease sensitivity try going to something like fireline. You can put it on a rod like an ugly stick and make it as sensitive as a $100+ rod. But of course there's trade-offs. It all depends on what your trying to accomplish. Hope this helps.

Generally IM-8 would be of higher quality graphite. This is a system used in measuring the density of graphite. The problem with this labling is that any company can put any label on any rod. Chances are they are not what they claim. Obviously I am a G Loomis fan and they too used to label their rods using this system. When other rod companies began labling their rods the same way, only not accuratly, Loomis changed their labling to what they have now. (GLX, IMX, etc.) Loomis now will not disclose the accual graphite modules count, but guarantees it to be the highest of any rods. Anyway, buyer beware, not all IM-6's are the same!

Just trying to add some humor. As stated elsewhere it depends on who makes it. I get rods in from unknown manufacture that feel pretty good but sell for $10. How good can thay be? If it's from a reputable company the IM8 is probably more sensative and a better rod.

It should hold that IM-8 is better than IM-6 graphite rods, but that isn't always the case. While IM-8 would be a higher modulus graphite, there is more that goes into rod design than that, blank layup and resins are just two of the factors.

Best way to find out is to go and "handle" them.

I would still rather use a Loomis or Sage IM-6 than most advertised "IM-8" sticks.
