Since the global warming thread is still here, and getting pretty long, I thought I 'd put this here.
The Montreal Gazette ran a story yesterday about how data from a satelite taken in the 1970's was compared to data taken this year. The finding was that less heat is radiating back into space, and it was called the first hard proof that the greenhouse effect is taking place. How this will affect weather is unknown since there might be more cloud formation in the futur which would keep more sun out. Weather's as tricky to predict as walleyes :).

Thought you would like to see what was in the WSJ this morning:
The evidence against a warming trend is overwhelming:
Weather satellite observations, the only truly global
measurements, independently confirmed by weather
balloon data, show no rise in mean earth temperature.
The well-maintained network of U.S. stations, after
removal of urban heat-island effects, shows no
appreciable rise since about 1940! Non-thermometer data
from various "proxies," such as tree rings, ice cores,
ocean sediments, etc., all show no warming trend in the
past 80 years.
Wouldn't it be timely and prudent therefore to hold an
adversary hearing, a trial that permits cross examination,
to examine the conflicting evidence, including also the
validity of the theoretical models on which all forecasts
of future warming are based? Promoters of global
warming have opposed such a confrontation; those who
are concerned about the economic impact of controls
should insist on it.

If we are going to have a hole in the ozone layer, I wish it would happen im my area. We still have 20" of ice on the lake and my boat has been in the garage for 5 months. I sure could use a little global warming right now.

It's probably noteworthy that Fred Singer primary training is as a physicist, and that the majority of his professional accomplishments occured under the Reagan administration.
