The facts:

Cherry Creek reservoir is a flood control reservoir. Fed by a very small creek. It has a rip rap earthen dam and it max's at about 35 feet (I think). The main forage is shad and there are lots of em! The walleyes in Cherry Creek spawn on the dam.

All the written information I have on prespawn walleyes kinda skips over the reservoir section and goes straight to prespawn in the river section of the reservoir.

The question:

Since they are not drawn up the river, maybe from a lack of current and suitable spawning structure, where would I find prespawn or spawning walleyes in the day and how would I get them to bite?

Shallow areas usually on the North shore of lake.
Personally I won't pick on them when they are spawning, They need to carry out natures ways without us proding and poking at them.
Nothin wrong with catchin in the pre-spawn.

Donrry about hitting them durring the spawn for a while Eric. The Cherry Creek Spawn isn't supposed to start till around April 6ish. Its amazing what having a friend who does egg retrevial can reveal.

Eric,
We beat Pueblo to a froth on Tuesday including likely spots on the dam and caught nothing but slimmers and smallies. They seem to want to eat at night during the spawn but during the day time even dynamite will not budge them. Come on down to P-low and catch some smallies until the spawn is over. If you figure out a P-low pattern, then you could probably use it on CCreek a few weeks later since our water warms quicker than yours.

Dave,

What was the water temperature at Pueblo?

The crappie bite should be hot at the Creek since the ice just came off, so I will give that try. Plus I need to make sure my motor will work! It's a 1976 ya know.
