I live about an hour or so south of Lake Winnebago. Can anyone tell me where the nearest place to fish for spring run walleyes is. Is there any place in Fondulac to fish for walleyes in the next couple weeks?

Once the ice is out of the Fox, Oshkosh would probably be the
closest for you. Good luck.

Winnabago walleyes move up the Fox and the Wolg rivers in the spring. Eureka is good. My favorite is vertical jiging with a jig and a minnow on the Wolf from lake Poygan up to the mouth of the rat river. Another spot we had good luck on last few years is long point reef on Winnabago south of Oshkosh. This seemed to be and evening bite. Lighted slipbobbers with leeches and crawlers. Ice is still in. Should be another couple of weeks before the rivers open.

The Ice is out ,Actually it is open about a 1/2 mile into the lake there are boats in the river already. To answer your ? no there is no place to river fish walleyes in Fond du Lac but Oshkosh is a good choice soon.

What about shore fishing in omro? Are there many walleyes still running around there? We used to fish in a park there years ago, but I had heard that the walleyes were'nt being caught there much anymore.

I have fished the river in Oshkosh with little success. Could hardly even mark a fish so I did not spend too much time with the line in the water. Water is about 18" low and there is hardly any current. I wouldn't waste the trip unless we get some rain. The launch by the Technical College is open. If you have any other questions you can e-mail me at Valkaree@aol.com.

Actually, you can fish walleyes in Fond du Lac in the Fond du Lac River on the west side of Lakeside Park. There are nice spots to park your vehicle and fish from shore on both sides of the river. Enter off of HWY 45 to fish the west side by Supples Marsh (there's a nice boat launch there also), or enter the east side off of Main St. by the old Tolibia Cheese Factory and Pick 'N Save. Dutch's Sport Shop is only a couple of blocks away on Main St., if you need to get bait.
You can also fish the channels in Lakeside Park. It's a nice way to walk around and try different spots. You may even pick up Largemouth Bass and Crappies in the process. I've had success fishing both places, and it's not nearly as crowded as the Fox and Wolf rivers.
