This is the first year I have a boat to fish
the spring walleye run on the Wolf River,WI.
The boat is ready to go! Does anyone have any tips on where to start,Fremont? Best launch sites? Tactics? How about Poygan and Winniconie?
Thanks!

Drifting and jigin are real common techniques on the Wolf. In this early season I love to anchor on sandbars and use three ways. I also like to launch my boat at Weilands landing, it doesn't get as crowded and they also sell bait, snacks ect. I hoped I helped you out some e-mail me for more info

Brian....
Come farther north for some excellent fishing in Shiocton. There are two good launch sites in town and some quality fishing. Probably not at crowded as Fremont though. Best tactics are to jig the sandbars on the slow cuurent side of the river on the prespawn and post spawn fish the fast water. Excellent fishing in shiocton. Need more info, just e-mail me. If you need a little assistance in Shiocton, email me and I can take you out once or twice and show you some of the river...Glen Bunnell

The above posts are right. I grew up south of Fremont and can tell you this. Just about anywhere from Winneconne to Shiocton is good at times. Work the shallower side when the fish are going up, the deeper side when coming down. Three ways are the easiest approach. Drift/jig when you can control boat speed. Jig colors vary, tip with minnow. Orihula is excellent, but crowded. Fremont is really good, but still crowded. Gills by Weyauwega is solid, not as crowded. New London is easiest to fish, but crowded. Shiocton is tighter, narrower, but far less crowded, and better a little later. Experiment and you will find "holes" of your own. All listed have good launches.
