View Full Version : DUAL PLANER BOARDS
I am getting ready to try planer boards for the first time tomorrow. I have the mast type boards I am wanting to run six lines probably two flat lines and two on each board. How should I set these up as far as wich rod goes to the out side, and on the inside. Like I said I have never done this so any help would be appreciated. Any other tips would also be helpful.
I also have my rod holders mounted on a rail behind the counsil. I have three on each side is this a good set up for what I will be doing?

I always set the farthest rod out in the forward rodholder. Then work your way back. When you get a fish on, hold the rod while the fish takes it back behind the other rods and bring her up the middle. Where are you planning on gong fishing?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-17-01 AT 09:47AM (CST)[p]Don, sounds like you are set up correctly. As the Chairman says always set the farthest out line first with the pole in the most forward holder. If you catch a fish on this "farthest out line", after landing the fish, move the second farthest out line to the farthest out position and move the pole to the most forward holder. You can then reset the 1st pole in the second position and so on. Also instead of running flat lines off the back of the boat, I like to use jet20s so that the lines are lower in water making it less a problem to clear when bring a fish in on one of the outside lines.

Same as other posts but just run 3 lines off each board and skip the flat lines iv'e run up to 4 lines off each board no problems. Also if you have enough people onboard you can run downriggers in combination with boards. And even still add a couple of dipsy's we've run this setup with no problem salmon and walleye when we have the kids with us and had great sucess.Just stay away from the pack and allow for long turns to get back to your waypoint where the fish are.If it's rough pull all and run back and repeat it's worth it when it gets rough work the spots where you get fish till they quit hitting then move on good luck.

We run 4 different color lines. This way it is very easy to undo tangles. We run Hi vis. yellow & Hi vis green. Clear & then trilene green.
The Hi vis doesn't effect the catch. If u aren't comfortable with the Hi vis. use a leader.
