I'm interested in purchasing a GPS unit. Nothing so complicated that I can't operate it, but with enough features that I don't need to upgrade constantly. I guess a handheld unit would be my choice, even though I would use it in my boat 90% of the time. THANKS EVERYONE!!

I am sure that most of your hand held units are similar and dont want to get into a discussion of which is best, they are all good. I only want to tell you of an experience with my hand heldd
eagle explorer, it fell off my console at 60 miles per while traveling down the highway, when i discovered it missing I backtracked knowing if i found it it would be destroyed, it was found several miles back on the blacktop, the case was banged up/ the screen was scratched and my thoughts were to go buy a new one as this type of delicate equipment could not take this punishment, i turned it on it located our position and worked as well as ever and still has for the past two years. good luck on whatever you buy.

Purchasing a handheld unit to use in a boat 90% of the time is not your best option. The screen size makes them difficult to operate in adverse conditions and you would be better off to install a permanent mounted unit in your boat unless you jump from boat to boat. The hand held units are cheap enough now to own both. Almost everyone that I know that used to use a portable has switched over to a permanent mount. Then having a portable as a backup makes all the more sense.
