I'd just like to take a little survey on what guys are using as their favorite Planer board line. Is anyone using Fireline?
Yes I use Fireline for in-lines and big boards both, BUT ONLY WHEN IT IS NEEDED. It's much easier to catch fish day in and day out with mono. The mono I use is 12# Berkley Big Game.

Without replacing the clips to the new snapper or stronger red one for offshore boards the rapping of line is a pain to do quickly so I like mono much better. I have never been able to see the lure working behind a board to tell if it is fouled so I figured I don't need fireline for that application. Long lining and jigging is a different story. The tattle flag on offshore boards is a great addition for strike or fouled info but I would like to see them included in the original board or at least at a more fair price for a couple of screws and spring and flag (17$).
I don't want to sound like I'm whining because they are a great boards and there is a lot of research that goes into producing a good product except that I think they would sell a lot more of them if they were less expensive or included in the original board for a moderate increase in price. (especially to me )

I have tried all the different clips and wrapping fireline around them to no avail. Spend half the day picking up the boards. 10# berkley XT is what I use exclusively now. Works great. I also run the tattle flags and use the heavier springs on deeper/harder pullng cranks. Works great.

I agree with chad, use 10# xt trilene. If you effectively want to troll and know where your baits are it is great line, never lose boards or fish, well sometimes the fish, but not the lines fault, good luck!!

The Precision Trolling Guide bases all its running depths with 10 lb. XT. Therefore alot of guys use this line. Its average diameter is .0134 It works great and is a premium line. I've gone to original Stren 12 lb. which is .013-gives me added strength and is said to be more abrasion resistant than many out there while keeping the same diameter-Tom
