I'm going to do some fishing on the ILL river and have never pulled 3-ways. I am wondering what the best rod selction for this technique is. Any other info would be appreciated also.
Basically you want a 6 ft to 6'6" spinning or bait casting rod - with a medium action a fast tip - that is very senstive.
Some folks prefer spinning reels and some prefer bait casters.
In general, I think that many folks who used to use spinning reels for this type fishing have moved over to bait casters - do to their ease of use for this application.
Lots of rods out there that meet this description.
In the high end - several GLoomis or St. Croix models.
For less money - you can check out the Bass pro - bottom bouncer walleye bait caster rods - typically 59 - but I think that they are on sale now for 39.
Also the Berkley Gary roach bottom bouncer rods are in about the same price catagory and work well as well.
These rods are certainly adeqauate and will catch you lots of fish. If you want a bit more sensitivity and want to spend more money - you can consider one of the similar models in the St. Croix, or G Loomis line.
Take care

If you have ever bottom bounced this is basically the same presentation. Use the same type of great.

Thanks for the reply guys. As always, good info.
Whether you use either baitcasting or spinning equipment the important thing is the rod stiffness. It must be right for the weight you will be dragging. A light rod will be bent over and bouncing around like you are fishing with a rubber band. It will bend over then spring back. It'll drive you nuts. Too stiff is no good either. You don't want to fish with a pool cue.
