The reel I use and like the best is a Abu Garcia TP3000C this is a low profile bait caster, This style of reel fits in your hand well and has a flippin' switch, that is a big help, it alows you to let line out with out having to crank the reel handle to ingage the reel. have some of this reels that I use a lot for 6 years and will keep using. good luck.

On Lake Erie, I usually use my Diawa 27's, but my favorite reel for bottom bouncers are my Quantum Bait-Sensors. For the smaller lakes and river in my area, the Diawa's are really overkill. The Bait-Sensor spinning reels have a dual drag system that allows you to release under slight tension, then flip a lever to your primary drag. Works great for light downrigging as well! The Shimano Bait-Runner works the same way. Good Fishing, Sluggo

I,ve been using my Abu 5500-c3's for bouncing, with no trouble at all. I think its all in what a person gets used to. I really like a bait caster for doing this, with a 6 1/2 ft. med. action rod for work down to 30 ft. deeper than that you need a lot heavier bottom bouncer, so I go with a med. heavey rod. I started using the 5500,s beacause thats what I had on hand and they work fine.

I use Diawa PS25B's, but they dont make them anymore, mine have seen 11 years of service and never a problem, I also use some Browning left handers with a flipping switch, they are okay, not as good as the diawa's. Wish someone would build a quality left hander with a flipping switch that was in my price range

I'll second the Abu 5500's.. I've found them smooth and almost bullet-proof..
Oh yea, and after last year I have an Abu 4600AB still bouncing around the Western Basin of Erie with a big sheephead tied to the end of it.. The reel was OK, but I've since gone back to my 5500.

I prefer my Daiwa SG27LC's when fishing rods left in the holders, but like lighter lower profile of the Team Daiwa Procaster Series when rods are hand held.

I use my Diawa SG27 reels, which are on long trolling rods. They work well for bottom bouncer applications, though they're not as ideal as a low-profile baitcaster with flipping switch. They are ideal, however, when I take my kids (which is a lot) or beginners. That way I give them all matching rigs with SG27 reels and I just call out the depth to be at. That way we're all in the strike zone and catching fish.
If you are going to be running a tiller and holding your rod at the same time..... it's important to get a light left handed low profile reel. If you try using a right handed reel you will quickly discover how clumsy it is because the handle will be on the wrong side. If you can reel left handed with a spinning reel you will have no trouble with a left handed bait caster. It'll just take a bit of getting used to. A flipping switch is also a nice feature.
i have been using cabales black labels baitcast for 4 years and never had a bit of trouble. they Are very cheap.$49.00 and i know some one is going make a stink about cabales rods , but 4 years so far and they work for me

We switch from bottom bouncers, to snap weights, to crankbaits. I just keep the SG27's for eveything.
