What do you guys use to store or transport your reels when they are not on the rod? Cabela's have a soft bag for 40 bucks or so. Anyone do anything different?

I prefer a hardsided plastic box to store my reels. I recognize that there is nice padding inside the Cabela's bag, but I just feel safer knowing that my reels are inside a hard-sided case. By the way, I save the boxes that came with my reels so I can store most of my reels in their own box inside the large plastic box. I use bubble wrap around the reels that do not have their original boxes.

I simply use rubber maid plastic containers.
I have a couple - one for the bait casters, one for the larger spinning reels and one for the ice fishig smaller spinning reels.

I also have a plastic - suitcase type box - with a handle - had sided. This box, will hold about 8 reels that I often use to take - when I am taking rods on a trip in a reel tube. I use the plastic hard sided box, for the reels. It works fine - I picked up the hard sided box at the surplus store for about $4

Take care

I have kept my original reel boxes but don't use them for transporting my reels. I use hard sided pistol sized gun cases. They are durable and come with plenty of foam padding to hold the reels in place.

I use hard side pistol cases made by Doskocil. I cut the foam to fit inside the box. They do not rattle around inside and safe for storage or travel.

I simply pack them in -between my clothing in my duffle bag or suit case. I have been on many fly in trips and have yet one to be damaged. I'll bet that I've more than saved in buying a case even if I do damage one this year.

Wrap it in a kids old t shirt and put it in tupperware. Don't forget to back the drag off.
