View Full Version : Trilene XT for planer boards...
Will 10# Trilene XT work in the standard Offshore clips? Does line color make any difference? Thanks.

I just rescently upgraded my boards to the heavier releases, but had no problem with the standard release clips provided it was fished pro style(looped once around the jaw). This method seems to be prefered by most of the fisherman anyway, that way you don't have to fight the board along with the fish or go back and retrieve the board later.Just reel up and remove it and play the fish. As for color I have always used the Low-Vis Green.I'm thinking of switching to the solar green for the higher visibility above water when fishing multiple lines.Does anyone have any feedback on solars effects on fishing below water? Would you recommend it.

I use 10# XT all the time with no modifications or once around wraps. I always use white (clear) instead of the green smokey color. Lawrence

I use 14 lb. Trilene XT with 100 feet of 10 lb. Vanish blood knotted together. Works excellant. Rigging up a couple of more rods right now and that is how they are being set up.
I use 10# XT with Gary Roach boards. When I don't wrap the line around the clip, it has a tendency to slip. If i recall right, the releases on these boards were designed to be used with superlines and not mono. With offshore boards, 10# XT works great. I like to use 10# mainly because that is what percision trolling uses on its depth charts. Yes, they have conversion tables, but this was just a little simpler.

When using mono with the offshore releases it is best to use the twist method of putting the line in the pinchpad. Set the lure out behind the boat the desired lead length, then make a loop in the line, stick your finger in the loop and twist it several times to give you an area of twists close together, then attach the pinchpad over the twisted area. This will hold much better and decrease the wear on your pinchpads. Try to keep the loop small and you will soon find this to be second nature. It works well.
The OR-16's (Red Releases) hold Trilene XT Very Well. It is what we use. Up to 17-20 lb test. The color doesn't seem to make a difference, I personally use Phantom Green though.
The other releases also hold XT well, just not quite as well.
If you have any further questions about the releases feel free to email me at the above email or (Maryshaw@tir.com)
Good luck,
