View Full Version : Underwater cameras in the salt

There's a number of underwater video systems becoming more and more reasonably priced. I'd really value a look at a number of places I fish...some from land, some from a boat...and I'm ready to take the $$ plunge. My question is this...the "multicolored light" cameras specify they are designed for optimum transmission in fresh water. I'm guessing the diffuesed salt in salt water is some sort of hinderance to these colored cameras. The other alrernative is infra red, it doesn't care about the water I'd love to get a color picture, but I'm wondering, with "blended red and green frequencies", what am I gonna see? Which objects will show up as red and which green? How would these type cameras work in the salt? Also, with the infrared type cameras, what does the image show? I mean, is it like "night vision" where you see a regular image but in two colors or do some things show up brighter than others?

I guess the big question is witch camera would be best for saltwater use?
