I know this has come up before, but can't find in archives.....

I scoffed at the idea of using an electric knife until last weekend. I can't believe how great these things work for taking the sides off a fish!

I used a regular old $9.99 Fleet Farm special and it worked great. Question is do the more expensive ones in Cabelas/Bass Pro do a better job? If so what should I be looking for?

Thanks,

After a "few" years of experience I like and use the "American Angler". Has a healthy motor, can run for a LONG time, blades last and it can be had for $19.99 on sale at Wal-Mart. Comes in AC and 12v DC flavors with 4" to 9" blades. It is a great knife and there are parts for them just about anywhere Sporting Goods are sold.

Don't waste your money on "Electric Fish Fillet Knives" unless you get the 12VDC model. I have used the cheap electric bread knives and I have the Electric Fisherman in the 120VAC variety. They work the same. I bought the American Angler 12VDC model and love it because I can use it on any battery, boat, car or whatever.

I can't understand why companies can make cordless drills, saws, and shavers but can't come up with a good cordless electric knife? I understand somebody had one but it wouldn't last through a limit of walleyes.

I posted the same about 6 months ago. Mine was a little different in that I was looking for a cordless knife that could be used on a fly-in where you would only use it to clean enough fish for your shore lunch. Getting back to the American Angler electric fishing knife, I like them a lot better than the Mister Twister but I wish the American Angler had the straight blades that could be interchanged with the curved blade. When making the first cut, the curved blade works great and also for cutting out the ribs, but a straight blade would work better when fileting the skin off the meat.

i fish a lot and used a mr twister for yrs...generally would last me one yr....was going to get the american angler...the 39 dollar one...but some guide said he had tried them all..except the amer. angler...and used a black and decker slim grip and does like 5000 fillets a yr...and the slimgrip is best for the buck...i used a bread knife my wife had and it did not last well at all...i bought the 20 dollar american angler and it did not last one season...the twisters were better for me...i bought two slim grips from ace hardware for 10 dollars each when i saw them go on sale and so far they work fine...been catching a lot of fish this spring but its the first season for this knife...the cheap amer. angler was cheap..burnt the motor up real quick...i think the 39 dollar one can be purchased on e-bay for 20 dollars if you catch a deal...it is the one with the contoured grip...steve
