Frank,
Try Spider Wire Super Mono XL in the 6# or 8# test range. Great line! Super sensitive, good abrasion resistance and good knot strength and comes in the green color. I've tried most of the others and this is one of the better lines I have settled with.
Good Luck!

I use 8 lb fireline and it works great. The only thing that I do different today is that I use a rod that has a lighter action. Don't need the old stiff rod any longer to feel the fish. The line transmits the feel much better.

Fireline will kill your eyelets. I used it for about 3 months of heavy fishing and it completely ruined my 240 dollar Loomis!!!!Loomis honored their warranty thank God.
I'm using a new line made by Rapala it is low memory, with a fast action Rod . I thought fireline was horrible for hook sets I was practically ripping their mouths off. But then, I was using a fast Rod meadium to heavy.
Another thing I didn't like is when I got snagged with it you end up having to cut the line. I thought it would be good for eyes because of their sharp teeth but when it drags across those razor sharpe teeth it cuts just like mono.

I guess if you really have to use it , don't use a rod with ceramic eyelets try using a Lightning rod with stainless steel chromium dipped eyelets.

Hands down my line is berkley trilene solar XT 6 8 or 10# .TOUGH,re-ties quickly, resists twist, great in bright sun and low light. When jigging most important thing, stay vertical,if you can't see the line 'you can't control the boat.Lots of snags, no problem.Other lines may prvide better sensitivity and some don't like to tie solar direct to the jig,and use leaders. All I can say is don't worry about it ,I've used it for many years ; casting shallows for pike and smallies, white bass on the surface-midday,eyes at nite and all my deep river jigging, great line .TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT GOOD LUCK GOOD FISHIN

Berkley Sensi-thin 6lb test. Great feel, just a little tough to tie in a hard wind.

Been using fireline 6lb since I can first remember it....four or five years. Neither my old berkley bump or my new Loomis has any damage to the eyes. I will agree that it is a real pain once you get a snag, which is common up here in Canadian Shield country. But I haven't found anything else I like. Last year I tried tournament strength and I think thread is stronger. I probably got a bad batch, but wasn't willing to try again. XL seems to have changed for the worse, so I think I'll spool up my spare with Rapala and give it a try. My main will still have hi-vis green Fireline though..take it easy!

It doesn't have to be limp, low memory lines stretch more, set it all a side diameter and think, diameter, diameter, diameter, and oh yeah color or transparency. Trying to be nice.

been using fireline for yrs on all my loomis rods, and also been selling it with them for yrs, not one time have i found firline hurt any eyes on any rods, people complain about fireline wearing out tips but many have found out that it was not the line but the swivel or snap being realled up to the tip

None of you mentioned "Whiplash" by Berkley. AWESOME!! Beats Firejunk by a loooonnnggg shot. We were hooking walleyes in 52-60 ft. of water with NO problems this past year. Try it!

I'll vote for whiplash too. I like the way it handles much better than fireline. 10# powerpro is a close second.. cw
