View Full Version : Question about Guidewear?
Think I might have the "Better Half" of me talked into buying half of a Guidewear outfit. Smooth talker. :-) Anyway, my question is on the zippers. I swore I'd never buy another piece of outdoor clothing that had Plastic zippers. (anti-glare, anti-corrosion etc.) I #### near froze to death a couple of times hunting deer from tree stands and such cause the plastic zippers were broke. Along with being expensive, some of these pieces of outer wear, a lot of those companies wont stand behind them. Just wondering how the zippers hold up and if they are plastic. Thanx Russell

I opted for a insulated parka style Guide Wear jacket and it is oversized for layering in sub-zero weather so it gets a lot of pressure from sitting in ice shack's and the like. Jumping in and out of a truck searching for perch will test a zipper fast.
So far it has held up with no sign of wear. I usually rip out parka zippers darn fast so I take it as a good indication it is well sewn and a quality zipper.
If anything does happen they stand by it no problem! Best customer service and exchange policy I have ever seen anywhere.

I agree with Eddy, this is good stuff. I am a rather large fellow, good looking also, but anyway, I put a lot of stress on the zippers, they seem to be able to take it. I am going on my 4th year on this stuff and have no trouble with it. Good idea to get it a little larger, so you have the option to layer, the best way to go..Money well spent............:-)

The key word here is plastic, high quality outdoor wear will have nylon polyurathane mix in the zipper allowing it to self repair or reform if damaged, along with a unquestioned waranty. Plastic usually comes with the less expensive gear & problems. The last gear I had lasted 20 years although the price was very high even then, it kept me warm & dry, a fishin' thru many cold winters & very wet spring rains.

My old green Guidewear has been thru the mill -- all seasons. It is uninsulated, but I layer up under it. The zippers are as good today as they were many years ago when I bought them.
Good stuff.

Ahhhhhh, a decision. Looks like you can be my guide and think of the cost saving. You may end up frozen stiff but, no doubt, we will suffer through!
