What are the best snap weights? Haven't decided whether I would pull 10# XT or Power Pro 20/6. Thanks.

I like the off shore snap weights with the new red clips that have the dimple. Otherwise wrap your line once when using the braided lines.

Howdy,
Off Shore - Off Shore - Off shore, no doubt about it.

Another vote for Offshore. Also get Precision Trolling book it has a section on trolling with the snap weights with depth charts very handy. To order book call 800-353-6958. Well worth the investment!

The OffShore Release is the best Snap Weight release/line holder on the market.

Go with the OR-16s (Reds) they hold the line with enough pressure to hold bigger weights. The new OR-16 with the center pin allows the release to keep from coming off the line, which comes in very handy when using large weights, catching large fish, or hitting bottom.

Were can you get the new 16's with the center dimple? I have looked around Kazoo Mich and can't find them.

Thanks

I am going to go against the flow a little here. To me the Mr.
Walleye clips have worked well over the last few years. With them there is no need to double wrap the line, fire line or mono.
I haven't tried the new clips from Off shore, so I can't say how they will work. BUT the old red off shore clips do not work as well as the Mr. Walleye clips.

I use pro-pointer clips made in N.D. Pro-pointer.com.

The Church Tackle "Mr. Walleye Snap Weight System" is better. Their clips are easier to manage, hold on all types of line and the weights are much easier to put on a clip and take off. With the Off-shore, it is a pain to switch weights on a clip. Good luck. I have been using them for 3 years.

A little bit different idea. I posted my plans for snap weight clips on the money saving tips page a while back. My clips do a great job of holding Fireline and Power-Pro, but best of all the can be made for only pennys a piece. It should still be there and if not, let me know and I will e-mail you. Good Luck!

How can you identify the new Offsore releases with the dimple? I bought a couple packs last week and got one pack with dimples and the rest without. I really think the dimples will work. Help?

I've been getting mine at Gander Mountain. There's probually a better way, but I've been openning the packaging to make sure that I'm getting the dimpled ones. Sadly, I lot of stores are still selling old snaps and boards. Buyer beware.

What is the benefit of using a snap weight for trolling vs. and inline trolling weight or say a walking sinker?

By using a snap weight, you can add the sinker any distance in front of the bait you want to position it. 10, 20, 50 ft. if you'd like. This allows the fish to only look at your offering instead of the weight as it goes by. Also the line is running at a more uniform depth instead of at an angle when placed further up the line, I feel this looks and presents the bait in a more natural way. Hope this answes your question.

You guys that are looking for the Reds (OR-16's) with the Middle pin in the jaws should ask Bruce DeShano. He is our (Bluewater Research, Inc.) exclusive ditributor. He would be able to tell you where you could find the releases near you.

Hope I was some help.

I recommend Pro-Pointer snaps weights. I've been using them for a few years now. They're easy to use and they work great with mono or any of the super lines. They hold great even with the powerful head shakes of fresh water salmon but yet they're a snap to pull off. They have all the advantages of the competitors brand but at a lot less cost. Check at any of the Scheels stores or you can order them on their web site. Good luck.
