Does anyone run the Cabela's outboard oil in their Ficht Johnson outboard? I have a 1998 150hp and troll a lot with it and never had it load up or anything like that. The Johnson dealer said to be sure to run the Evinrude oil which I did for a time. Then I just couldn't resist the lower price (about 1/2) of the Cabela's oil. I ran a few gallons through and didn't notice any difference. But after servicing the motor last fall, the Johnson guys still say to burn the Evinrude oil. It made me a little jumpy and I'm on my way to Cabela's today (family road trip:-) with intentions to return three gallons of their oil. Any thoughts from you experts? Thanks!

I'm sure your mechanic would love to sell you oil although any TCW III rated oil will work just fine. I have been using the cheaper brands for several years with no problems. Make sure it says TCW III on the label. This is a rating given to outboard motor oils for lubricating qualities anything else may come with regrets.

I've run Cabela's Oil in my last two Mercury 125's the past 7 years. Not only is it cheaper, I know it provides less smoke and smells better than Merc oil. Both motors have run flawless, plus Cabela's oil is semi synthetic and less toxic. And TC-W3 rated.

Being that there is a special Ficht oil, I would suggest you post this up in the Boats/Motors Board and ask for Seahorse if he is still around.
