I an in the market for a LMS 350 or a LMS 160 and I am trying to find out which one to buy. I seldom fish any deep water, but do fish big lakes like WInnebago. I have asked several people but haven't gotten a real good answer either way.
Thanks...

I don't know much about the LMS 160 but I have two LMS 350's and there about as good as it gets. The built in gps capabilities are a nice feature for larger waters although you will need to purchase a gps antenna. My Dad has a Lowrance X-65 and although it doesn't have the detail of a 350 it's a very nice economical graph. Hope this helped.

IF YOU DON'T NEED THE ACTAUL MAP CAPABILITY IE C-MAP OR THAT TYPE OF FEATURE.THE 350A WOULD BE THE WAY TO GO.MUCH BETTER LOCATOR FOR FISHING PURPOSES AND FEATURES AND THE 12 CHANNEL PLOTTER ASPECT IS ALL YOU NEED FOR PLOTTING FISH STRIKES ECT AND GETTING BACK IN. I ACTAULLY RUN A MAP 1000 ALONG SIDE AN X-70A AND JUST UPGRADED THE X-70 FOR A 350A.GO WITH THE 350A, YOU WONT BE SORRY AND PICK UP A GPS MODULE.

The LMS350A is unquestionable a great unit, for a plotter. It has 200 vert. pixels and 3000 watts. IF you want an excellent plotter and depth finder, its great. The LMS160Map ( I am guessing you mean Map) Is 160 verticle pixels with 600 watts. Not as much detail on the screen as the 350. The advantage of the 160 is that you can use Navionics maps that will chart topos for many bodies of water. My understanding is that the 350 will be updated next year. If built in topos are not a biggy to you, go 350. The major drawback of the 160 is that it is way behind the curve in pixels. I personnally would not go less than 240. ( The exception would be the 200 in the 350)
The 160 can do it all, depth and mapping, but the 160 pixel count deters me a bit if one would use it for multipurpose. If the 160 depth finding capabilities are more of a backup for another unit, it could be a good choice.
Just my two cents,
Jim

PS I am also looking into upgrading, and have not found the complete package yet.

If I were sailing or yachting around the coast or inland waterways, I would get the 160 with the chart map. If I were fishing the waters of my area lakes, then I would get the 350...guess what I got?

My 350A w/ GPS & dual-freq transducer will be for sale as soon as my Pinpoint arrives. Drop me an email if interested.

I have no idea what this unit is worth, used but in good condition. Anybody have any idea? Thanks.

IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS THE RIGHT WAY... (IN MY OPINION) - PUT AN X-85 AND A GLOBAL MAP 1600 SIDE BY SIDE... THIS WAY YOU'VE GOT THE BEST TECH GOING AND YOU KNOW YOU ARE BUYING PRODUCT THAT DOESN'T RUN THE RISK OF BECOMING OBSOLETE... THE FUTURE OF THE LMS-350 could BE AT STAKE... THE X-85 GIVES YOU SUPERB PEAK-TO-PEAK AND RESOLUTION AND THE 1600 GIVES YOU THE BEST IN GPS MAPPING CAPABILITIES... HAVE FUN - WAGS

I have both on my boat, I like the graphing better on the lms 350 more pixeles but I like the mapping from the lms 160, its a horse a piece, are you going to use more for the gps or the graphing? if you would say graph I would say 350 but if you would say navigational I would say 160. You can down load your own maps, Its a great feature if you fish different states. they both are great units the only reason I have both is because when sold my old boat you get nothing for trade for them, so instead of bying a x-85 I mounted the 350 over the top of the 160 good luck mark
