You're asking a good question about how cameras work.
I bought a fish eye camera 3 years ago. It works o.K,.. for when my boat is sitting still. I know it's not as good as an infra red camera for fishing in the dark, but I've used it a lot and I've looked at all the cameras out there that were not offered when I bought mine.
Let me tell you what I do know.For daytime operation and sitting still, they're all the same, as far as I'm concerned.
The only great differences I've seen on the market since I got mine is that strike vision system .
Reason??? They can really troll it easily.because of the signals for power and video going up the downrigger cable.
That gets rid of all the drag my system has with a fat coax cable. Same problem with aqua vu, catch cam , ovs, and every other copy cat in the business.
Every other make out there just copied my fish eye, and then they argue who has the best screen that only costs about $35.00 anyways. If I had it to do over and I knew about it I'd have bought a strike vison.
Otherwise I think my fish eye is just as good as any thing else for sitting still.

Isnt it against the law to fish while using these cameras?Doesnt sound like people are abiding.I learned how to fish by basically just going and doing it .I must say Ive done pretty good at it too!Fishing can be work ,but does that mean we shouldgive up on fair chase?Some of you probebly spend more time looking at that monitor than really fishing.....

I bought the aquavu mx2c before x-mas as did my buddy. His lasted one day and the cable broke, $15 to send it back and wait over two weeks to get it back. Mine lasted a week 4 trips of an hour each the the lite went out. Sent it back they sent me a cheaper modle camera that had no light I sent it back and marked it. It came back with out the mark being changed then on the telephone they siad they sent me the wrong one to send it back a third time today I finally got it back-I think I didn't open it yet. $450 and I havent used it this year 2001 yet! Not to pleased and don't know much about using it yet. Spent a lot of money for much hassle....jk

Cameras aren't illegal in my jurisdiction.
I don't use my strike vision system for searching for fish at all, any way.
It is used to monitor my lure while downrigger trolling deep.
I have no idea why anybody would find that offensive.
We see lots of fish chasing the lure, that gives plenty of entertainment, even when they don't bite(but it doesn't MAKE THEM BITE!)

Just remember that Capra's have stock or had stock in the aqua-view that they recomend above everything else. I found it somewhat offensive how they banged some of the camera's around and stated how user unfriendly that they were. They have a VERY definate bias about which camera comes out on top. I am dissapointed with how they represented all of the camera's and failed to inform everyone of their affiliation with aqua-view!

Thank for the compliment hook of mouth!I can see the amusment factor of course,and I know it doest make the fish bite,but some people just have to have everything so easy ,so lets say you take a kid fishing ,geez dont see any fish here,where is the lesson in patience?How does it really teach them to fish!Life doesnt always have to be like one big video game !

Was there a programming mixup? I thought I was watching one of those creepy late night "infomercials"! The bias was obvious. Did Capra's use their best video tape when they were showing the screens of the other units? Was the video footage poor or was the plastic shipping film still on the monitor screens? Also Jeff Zernov should introduce himself as the owner of one the companies represented in the interest of fairness. And if Capra's do have a financial interest in promoting one brand over another, that should have been disclosed, because they made it seem as if they were only comparing the cameras on their merits. I own an an Aqua-View and I think its a good product but this show struck me as a sham...

Cameras arent like a camera above water. They are no more or less important than each individual makes them. Point is tho, you still have to catch them once you find them. A camera can tell you quickly if you are fishing eye's or a scholl of white suckers. In dirty water they are of almost no real use at all. Even the IR. Fish are cold blooded, and so is their surroundings. I think maybe, the camera craze will go the way of the color C lector. But I have to admit, sitting at the Shakopee expo watching the Catch Cam display's video of pike was sure interesting and telling. Pretty fancy thinkin for a dullard like me, and I dont even own a underwater camera.

I didn't see the program.
I knew Ted Capra's son had an interest in Aqua-Vu along with Jeff Zernov, so I'm not a bit suprised by the predictable results, of having Aqua-vu being crowned as best unit.
What other brands were compared?

As far as kids go, if cameras help entertain them enough to hook them on fishing, I'd rather see that than see them playing video games anyday. If you think somehow that underwater cameras affects peoples scruples for the worse, perhaps you could point out some scientific study that shows how polaroid glasses, turn fly fishermen into meat hogs, or how binoculars cause hunters to take more than their share of game? Ethics are found only one place. Between your ears!!

i lkie the ovs for the size . not much on the aqua view ive seen both in action .and sell both . your ovs is very clear and you have a couple of choices of infared on or the brighter lightson or just the camera. in which the aqua veiw only has two lights on bright or lights off. i would go with the ovs
