Since there is little or no natural reproduction of walleye in the lakes of southern Iowa due to the often turbid and tepid conditions, most stocking is done with a large percentage of walleye/sauger hybrids (saug-eye).
Is this the case North and East of here where stocking is necessary? Or is pure-strain walleye stock the norm?
I'm sure there are "walleye purists" who would rather fight than cross-breed their "eyes", and others who don't give a hoot as long as their fish have teeth and end with e-y-e! Just curious, and anxiously waiting for the rotten ice to go.
