When out on lake Michigan perch fishing I get sicker than a dog. I tried Dramimien(sp?) and it made me sleepy. How do the wrist bands work or do you have any other ideas that might help?

It's awful to be a sea sick fisherman like me & you. I have tried the wrist bands with no success and Dramamine with some success. I have found that if I drive the boat and watch the horizon instead of setting lines and looking down in the boat, I can last much longer before getting sick. Last summer I went deep sea fishing and I was anticipating being sick. I called my doctor and he prescribed the behind the ear patch. This really worked. We were in 10'-12' waves and I was fine. These patches cost about $6 each and can last up to 3 days. This summer I will try them when Salmon Fishing on Lake Michigan.
Good Luck and don't chum.

There are a couple other medications that help with seasickness as well as Dramamine. One of them is called Merazine and does not have the side effects that Dramamine does.
Another thing that helps with seasickness is Ginger, as in Ginger root & ginger powder. These are kind of tough things to take in thier natural form but maybe a health food store would have them Ginger in a tablet or capsul form and then there is always ginger ale too.
Check with your pharmasist about the availability of medications for this problem and also regarding side effects and drug interactions with anything else you may be taking.
Hope this hels.

The patch you are refering to is called Scopolamine and is quite effective against motion sickness as you are aware. Aside from the cost however there are also some side effects to this drug that can be quite dangerous. For this reason it is a prescription only medication. Your doctor obviously felt safe giving it to which is a great thing for you, but everyone should check with their doctor before using this medication.
In other words don't use one of your friends patches because it works for him because you may be taking a different medication or have a health problem that would make this a very dangerous drug to use.

I found an oral spray called Vita Motion-S. Bought it at a Charter seminar a couple of years ago. Base ingredient is vitamin B-6 and ginger root. I have not seen it since, but it is the best I found. I get quezy on someone elses' boat so I carry it with me.

Generally once my clients get green, it's time to go in. If they're only light green, I offer them a bag of ginger snap cookies and water. Soda pop doesn't usually help. Get them into the back of the boat and involved in rigging. If nothing else works, go in and find a better day to go fishing. When chartering or guiding, never offer anyone a dramamine or any medication. Their bad reaction is your lawsuit. Sad but true.

Great Lakes Angler had a real good write up on sea sickness in the winter (?) issue. Even gave a good explaination of what causes it. Worth finding if you can.

It looks like your question has been answered by the pros. Time for a sea sick story:
My wife and I were in Hawaii last September. One of the fun things we decieded to do was deep sea fishing. I've been on big water a few times before with no problem, so I wasn't worried. We tried to sign up for a 4 hour trip, but they were all taken. So we got the 6 hour trip instead.
Lets just say the 1st 45 minutes went well. I spent the rest of the trip laying down, and 'getting up' every once in a while. There were only 3 of us on the boat that were fishing (my wife was just watching).... Lucky for me, I offered (early in the trip) to go 3rd... Just trying to be nice to the city slickers. We only boated 1 fish, so I didn't have to try to reel anything in. I KNOW I couldn't have done it.
Our 6 hour trip turned into 7 hours and 45 minutes. That guide had no mercy. I wish I would have been with Ynot, it sounds like he is a little nicer to the sick ones!
I for one will never go out again without some kind of motion sickness preventer.
