Was it just me, or did anyone else see Mark Henckel trying to catch a trout at the kids pond last weekend at the MORE show??

I've wasted enough money in past years trying to muscle those little kids out of the way and sneak nightcrawlers on my hook at the kids' trout pond at the MORE show. I knew better than to even try this year. I couldn't catch those hatchery rainbows then. I couldn't catch them now. If it weren't for carp and suckers, I'd catch nothing at all. -- mark

The first time I tried it I figured it out they had floating flies on the rods and the fish were at the bottom so I drug the fly out and spit on it to get it to sink and walla I caught one.

I had other troubles, beyond just the fishing. First, I had to convince the guy selling tickets that I was the only bald-headed, full-moustached four-year-old in Montana. Then, there was that middle-aged spread............ -- mark

Try a little piece of popcorn or a small chuck of chewing gum.Gotta be sly though cause those kids are pretty sharp and before you know it they're stealing the secrets.

Years ago at the Milwaukee Sport Show I stopped at a booth selling scent and put a gob on my thumb and finger..then I went to the trout pond and put it on my fly. Ended up catching 8 of those little buggers. Never caught one out of there for years, and that seemed to do the trick. That, and I was also in a spot where the water was shooting in and created a good current and eddy situation. ;-)

Haven't been back there for a couple years now, so I never had the chance to try it again.


By the way, those fish taste like liver pellets..Yuck! lol

Juls that's just the natural taste of trout LOL. Why do you think we love walleye. I was #3 on the list for the tape and I haven't recieved it yet.

Going to redwing today wish me luck it's still cold.
