I need some suggestions. Im gonna either put Trilene 4lb fireline or xl on my crappie rod. What would you suggest I go with? Im using a Qauntum Xtra-lite rod 5'6" 1/64-1/8oz jig. Also a okuma ultralite reel. thanks

I always used to use 4#XL on my ultralites and it worked well for me. I used the UL for walleyes on occasions when I wanted to pitch light baits for small walleye and the 4# worked well there too. Last year, I started fishing perch on Lake Mendota (WI). We were vertical jigging in 40-75' anywhere from the top to the bottom. When the perch were deep, we found that we lost nearly 1/2 of the fish that we "hooked". I switched to 4# Fireline and I not only landed a better percentage (nearly 100%), but I also hooked more fish that I never felt. I guess I am saying that if you are fishing "normal" panfish depths, the XL should work well. If you plan to fish deep for panfish or for bigger walleye, the Fireline may be a better choice. Good Luck!
P.S. I continued to use the Fireline all winter and it worked well. I tied 2# flourocarbon leaders when fishing shallow water pans.
