I’m looking for some opinions on the Zercom LPG 2000. I noticed on Bob Jensen’s show last week they caught a glimpse of it with the camera and I was really impressed with the detail and clarity of the screen(maybe it was in simulator mode).does the 30 updates/sec make a difference when running at speed ?just like to hear some pros & cons
thanks
Joe

The unit is sweet, simulator isn't any different than what it can actually do. Its hard for it to stay in contact with the bottom at WOT with my aluminum flatbottom on rough water. I've been thinking about getting a Pinpoint- flashchart is amazing, much faster than the LPG, and they claim that it takes less time to interpret the sonar signal and display it. The problem I have with Pinpoint is that it isn't as simple as the Zercom, which was the main reason I bought the LPG instead of the 7520(other than I never use a trolling motor)

We were given one of these units to use last year,by one of our sponsors; and we ended up purchasing it. The definition is just incredible, we could watch our 1/8 ounce jigs go up and down the screen. And since this was originally a loaner; we are shooting through the hull with the transducer! The only "problem" we encountered, was that we would "out-run" it at 45mph.(but then again, we are shooting through the hull) another nice feature is the large "knob" style controls are much easier to use in rough water or with gloves on or on the run. I know you will fall in love with this unit, as we did.

I can't tell you first hand but from the guys I know that use it they say it's about flawless.EXCEPT.lol It does lose it's self at higher speeds. I'll bet they'll solve that in no time..

W'eyes Guy and Airwave(OH),
Please contact me directly concerning your LPG 2000's and high-speed depth readings. I have some questions on what conditions this happens under and some things for you to try.

Just a note regarding JoeyO's post. The shot of the Zercom was a real-condition shot. It wasn't in simulator mode, the picture on the screen is really that clear and detailed.

JoeyO,
I purchased the Zercom LPG 2000 last spring. It was extremly difficult to setup the transducer to read the bottom at higher speeds. After much tweaking I finally got the right position. In addition, I have had problems with it shutting completely down (screen goes blank) without warning. I don't know if this is a wiring or an internal problem. I have not been able to verify this yet because it does not happen on a regular basis. If it had not been for the simplicity and clarity of the screen I would have returned it and bought a Lowrance 350.

Rick S,
I would be interested in knowing if you can pinpoint the problem. If the unit is completely shutting down as you say, than I would suspect a power problem.
· Check to make sure that the power cable is not working loose - make sure it is installed in the connector collector correctly and is fully plugged into the back of the LPG 2000.
· Check your power cable connections all the way back to the battery. One loose or corroded connection could be causing the LPG 2000 to shut off. I personally never liked those solderless crimp on type connectors. I always make a good solder connection, whenever possible.
· The LPG 2000 will also automatically shut off whenever the voltage to it goes lower than 10 volts and higher than 20 volts. It could be that your power source is going higher or lower than this at least momentarily. This could also happen due to electrical interference from the motor or another electrical device.
Just some things for you to try and/or check. Let me know what you find.

Greg,
Don't get me wrong on the LPG2000.It's really a great unit. The problem I'm having is probably electrical, but I can't define the trouble spot yet. I'm powering from the previous units powering position beneath the console. My previous unit never failed in this way. If there is problem outside the unit itself it would need to be between unit and the terminal on the console. I don't think it's a battery problem since I have battery gauges I can view at a glance. It's frustrating when this happens because the unit must be turned back on and then wait for the screen.
Thanks for the input.

Greg.... Has there been any new updates recently with the 2000? Are they working on another transducer? I spoke with you last summer concerning my 2000. I did try the other transducer that you sent, did improve somewhat with losing bottom, but not as good arches. I have since moved the original transducer to the outside edge of the transom, works better.
Just curious if anything new has come about.
Thanks for taking interest here,
Brad

Check out this page to display your voltage at all times go below 10 or above 16 and unit will shut down

What is the price of this unit? Also, what is the power peak to peak? Does it work well in shallow water, 3-20 ft deep?

Price at a lot of places is $599, works great in shallow water. I have graphed a lot of carp in 20 ft, and crappie in 12 ft, a couple times graphed crappie suspended 2 ft below surface while trolling

I used mine all last summer and love the unit, but I, along with others, have had problems with it at speeds over 25 mph. I've spoken to the Zercom rep here in the Cities and he claims it's a transducer positioning issue. Other than that I love the unit and I have a friend who feels the same about his. I got mine from Reeds for $500 with speed and temp at the Sportsmans Show.
