View Full Version : F150 SuperCrew
I'm looking for a new truck and am really interested in the SuperCrew. I regularly tow a 5000 lb. 21'Thompson Fisherman 60-100 miles or so 3-4 times a month, I live near Cleveland and tow to Lorain in the spring and work my way to Astabula in the fall. I was wondering if anyone has bought a SuperCrew yet and what they thought of it. I'm considering the 4X4 5.4L w/limited slip, and was also wondering if anyone has real highway/city MPG information.
Thanks

For what it's worth. I got a F150 super crew 2x4 with the 4.6L and limited slip in November. Combined city/hwy 15-16 MPG. I have not done any towing yet. Love the truck so far.
Mark,
I've been running a loaded Supercrew XLT with a 5.4 for about 9,000 miles now and really like the truck. This is my sixth Ford pickup in the last 12 years but the first F150 . I've always had 250's but decided I didn't need the extra weight this time around. Mileage is about 15-17 without towing and about 13-15 with it. I tow a Triton 205 with tandem axle trailer and you don't even know it's back there. I had to get used to the lighter ride though-after driving 3/4 tons all those years but it rides nice. I wouldn't get anything smaller than the 5.4 though - the 4.6 is built for toys not trucks. Good luck on your truck.

Are you running with the standard springs and shocks? How about stabilizer bars? Any rear sag with a load in the bed and a trailer attached?
Jon
Is your truck a 4x4 or 4x2? Thanks for the response
Mark
Mark,
Mines a 4x4 with the off road package which has the heavy duty suspension with heavy shocks. It's still not a 3/4 ton ride but tows beautifully. Maybe if I want a firmer ride i'll put on aftermarket shocks and some suspension goodies such as sway bars and the like.Don't think i'll need to do that though.

I run a 99 f150 extended cab with the 5.4 engine. Great tow truck but a little hard on gas at 12-13mpg. My older 92 with the 300 straight six was MUCH better on milage with 16mpg but then that truck was NOT a 4x4 and though it did tow well, it need more power on long uphill grades! FYI....There is alot of GREAT info at the Ford f150 truck site that I would recommend that you checkout BEFORE you buy a new truck. The people at this site will let you know about any and all problems they may be having like piston slap and door cracks and the like! You will not be sorry.....good info and nice people!! Hope this helps! Wiz
Thanks Wiz,
I have checked out the F150 site, but I was having trouble finding anything specific about towing on the site. I thought I would be able to get that information from here.
Thanks again
