I am going to spend a fair amount of time this year fishing with snap weights and have a question when using deep diving crank baits. I have the precision trolling book, so that isnt a problem. When using the 50/50 method and a deep diver can I simply look at the proper dive curve for my crankbait, see how far it will dive with 100' line out and then add the proper weight size to reach my target depth? The book is very clear on shallow cranks, spoons and spinners but I need to know more about using deep divers. Thanks alot for any input.
The best way to really learn this is trial and error, there is a lot of variables to the deep runners, line diameter, speed, rod angles.just be sure to have a note pad handy to write down what you find out. also the distance from the lure to the weight , try different distances at different speeds. good luck and good fishin.

In the newest version of the book (6th edition) they explain that they figured out that any crankbait dives a certain percentage deeper with a certain size snap weight 20ft up from the bait. I want to help, but I think the info. falls under copyright. If you e-mail Mark Romanack and explain that you already own a copy of the book he might be willing to give you the ratio.
Sorry I can't just tell you, I wish I could.

I believe you are correct in your assumption. That is how I figure it out, and it seems to work for me.

Thanks guys. I think i'll just buy the 6th edition since I need the dive curves of some baits that are not in my book.
