Hello all, Im gonna tie my own spinners for trolling this year. I was wondering what type, and size blades you suggest. Also what size clevis and beads? thanks

I also tie my own spinner rigs. I use a variety of colors and sizes beads. I use clevis's that allow me to change blades. That way you can experiment and develope patterns on each outing. You may end up with all the same blades if patterns are established. Get a variety of blades, several colors, sizes, and types. Tie several rigs and you can change your blades when necessary.
Good luck, Murph!

I second the quick change clevises. Also, carry a variety of shapes, colors and sizes of spinner blades. When I'm fishing the Great Lakes, I like to use big blades to call the fish in from further away (usually). If I'm on smaller, ultraclear water I'll downsize my blades to account for the spookiness of the walleye. Also, don't forget to vary up the length of your snells, it can make a world of difference on days when the 'eyes are finnicky. A little trick I've used before to pick up some 'eyes on high pressure areas is to run at least one rig that goes against the grain. Everyone was running gold and silver hatchet blades with 10ft mono and green or white beads and having a real hard time. I put a rig out there with a fireline snell, a perch/firetiger colorado blade and some red beads and an orange/chartreuse float and started picking up walleye.
I guess my suggestion can be characterized as: be versatile and don't be afraid to be different. The guy who wins the tournament is usually the one doing something everyone else isn't.

Stamina also has a handy booklet out on making spinners. It gives you sizes for everything to get started. Good fishing and God bless. By the way I believe the cost of the booklet is about $6.00.
