View Full Version : One or Two Piece Avid Rod??
I'm going to buy a 7 ft Avid Spin Cast and would like to get it in 2 piece in case I want to take it on an airline. Any difference in performance?

I don't think you will even notice the difference. The St. Croix rods get most of their sensitivity from the fact that the rod blank goes all the way thru the handle. (I'm simplifying my answer, because there is more to the sensitivity issue, but this is one of the factors.) This gives you more "feel". The handle on a two piece rod would have the same feature. It would just be in two pieces.
Go ahead and buy the two piece rod. You won't be disappointed in the sensitivity of it.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the two piece rods. I've had too many that have broken right where they connect. Although there are certain sacrafices that must be made somtimes. A 7' rod would be pretty hard to transport if it was one piece.
I believe that Juls is right in that you shouldn't be able to detect any loss in sensitivity. The only possible disadvantages are that the taper is not as precise, and you sacrafice a bit of strength. Although, this being an Avid rod, you don't need to worry about quality.
