Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of an anchor ball. When pulling 200 to 250 ft. of anchor rope up, you simply put the boat in reverse and the anchor rope slides through this floating ball. As long as the anchor weighs less than 60 lbs. the ball stays on surface. The anchor comes up, latches to the ball and you then pull anchor in by hand while it floats on surface. Jigging for lake trout at usually 120 ft up here means sometimes doing alot of moving so one can see the advantage in time and effort. Has anybody used these before?? I would appreciate your comments.

Thank you,
Kroe

This system is commonly used in Alaska in the Cook Inlet when anchoring for halibut. As you say, several hundred of line out. Although for the retreve you drive in forward into the wind, in the opposite direction the anchor is stuck. There is some danger in this when the anchor is stuck fast but it is used for deep anchor retreval. Be careful and good fishing. No FIsh
