I can only speak for our group, but we have always had the best luck using 3/8 or 1/2 oz white glow jigs made by northern bait. reeds handle them and I just found some at L&M Fleet priced at 4 for $.99.
We just put a plastic tail or power bait on with a crawler and fish with a vertical presentation.
Last year in June we wore our arms out pulling in Walleyes from 5 to 7 feet of water in grassy areas.

I do not think color matters. I start at 1/4 and go up to 1/2, depending how deep you are fishing. If you are there in June, you will fish shallower than August.
Same goes with cranks. It depends what time of year you are there. Always have shad raps with you. My lucky lure is a #18 Original Rapala in the Flourescent Red/Gold. Will not go to Canada without a few of these to work the weedlines.
