What temperature do walleyes become more active at in resevoirs
In early spring??
The ice just cleared off of our favorite resevoir, so I'm sure they are quite low.

I am starting to take temperature readings where I fish this year to determine when they are most active and feeding.

If anyone has any experience with water temps. and their affects on walleye I would be glad to listen. Thanks in Advance.

Eyelander,

The optimum water temperature for walleye activity is in the low 70 degree F. range.

Remember to keep your eyes open and your feet dry.

32 to 70 degrees farenheit. Yes that is a sarcastic comment but not intended to be disrespectful.

Right now, If i could find soft water, it would be the perfect temperature!

You have to realize that right after ice-out until spawn there is a short window of time where they are actively feeding to beef up for the spawn. However, right "after" ice out is sometimes too late. Go after the early spring eyes before spawn!

"IDEALS" like 68 degrees are often hard to find. Fish are a lot like us. If it's too warm they look for a cooler place. If it's too cold they look for a warmer place. They can usually be found between 65 deg. F. and 75 deg. F. if these temps. are available. BUT.... these temps are not always availabe to them. They go for the best they can find at any given time. ALSO consider..... If they are hungry they might be found at a temp. their prey might prefer. They might also be in a place where the oxygen level is high. Green weeds provide both shade and oxygen. Wave action also oxygenating effect.
