I am considering buying either a Lowrance LCX-15MT or a Pinpoint 7520...
The Lowrance unit seems impressive (running on the simulator in the store) - I am wondering though about the GPS mapping and if there is much detail for Canadian mapping? Are there plans to extend the Canadian mapping available? Any other feedback about this unit would be appreciated.
I also checked out the Pinpoint 7520 (running on the simulator in a store) and the screen was very dark, even after adjusting the contrast it didn't improve much. Any feedback? I have also heard that GPS will be added to this unit - is this true? How soon?
Thanks in advance...

There have been several posts comparing these lately, so you'll want to search back a month or so. Basically, the X15 is slow. I can't remember its refresh rate, but I do remember that the Pinpoint is many times faster, giving you a truer picture of what's underneath your boat.

I also hear the X15 is user updatable--download the latest rev from the Web and apply it yourself. Wish I could do that with my Pinpoint!!! But I think the display rate advantage of the Pinpoint more than makes up the difference.

I now have a Pinpoint on the bow in concert with their trolling motor and an LCX-15mt on the console, so I can do direct comparisons. Both have incredibly good resolution. I can see details I never dreamed of before. Each has its points. Refresh rate on the Pinpoint is a bit better than the Lowrance, but I ran the software update this weekend (now version 1.6) and the screen speed is much improved, so there is less of a difference now. The contrast seemed fine on both units. I just wish someone would think about putting non-glare glass on the screens of these things. It would make viewing a lot easier. I'm still learning the GPS stuff, so I can't comment too much on that. Frankly, you couldn't go wrong with either.
