Are there any of you out there who have posted pictures of your rigged boats on the internet? I've been looking for ideas on rod holder placement and rigging. I'm just curious to see what other folks have done, and the picture would save a thousand words.

It would be pretty cool to have a page on this site where anglers can put pictures of their walleye boats. It would give new folks good ideas, and an opportunity for the veterans to do a little bragging.

Careful, last time I made a statement about rigging your own boat, some dealers just blasted me on why I am doing this myself and that if I had a good dealer, they would do it all for me. Apparently the dealers know more about rigging a boat for me than I did. Sure, as long as they get paid $80 per hour to do it.

Aside from the know-it-all dealers on this site, I am with you. As I said before, I like to rig my boat my way. One dealer will typically rig a boat the same way for every boat in their shop. I rig it to custom fit my fishing styles. I agree that why try to re-invent the wheel so I am also interested in what you have suggested.

So far I have done everything to my boat that I will be doing for now except install flush mount rod holder bases in the gunnel and install some down rigger bases. I have rigged my boat with all the depth finders, transducers, trolling motors, splash guards, GPS's, fish net holders...

I am going to wait until I can get on the water to see where I want to install my rod holders. I did learn from my last dealer rigged boat NOT to center them in the gunnel of a Lund. You can't tip the rod up more than a small amount. SO much for dealer rigged boats.

2nd the motion not to center, you cant tip the rods up and the butts hang up when you pull them out on the flush mounts, you will want the towards the inside of the boat,on the lund

I wouldn't say all dealers would blast you for it. I just purchased a boat from Pamp's in Green Bay, and Wendy and Jeff were honest and forthright about boat rigging. They know that you, the fisherman, would sometimes be better off to rig your boat to your liking PLUS the money you would save by rigging it myself. Yes, they still would be happy to do it, but they wouldn't barade you for not letting them. just my 2 cents worth.

I'm a little unsure of what you mean by centering the rod holders in the gunnel of a Lund. I'm going to be putting in 2 Ram Rod 2000 flush mount holders (in a Lund) and I assume that the high riser will prevent any clearance issues. Are you talking about flush mounts where the rod butt goes down into the compartment the holder is mounted into?

This is the kind of thing that pictures would be great for. That way you could see distances between seats, electronics, and just general placement.

Thanks.

I agree with you, Brad. It is not a problem with RAM mounts. I have mine centered on the gunnels of a 1700 Fisherman and they work just fine. Plenty of clearance. I can see how it would be a problem with Roberts or other low rod holders.

i dont know what is the right way,but i know what i didnt like about my boat when i bought it,second hand! the original clown went wild with pin-striping,he screwed up the wiring so when i got my 24 volt motor guide and wired the male plug the way the instructions told me to i was blowing the breaker. he drilled about a dozen holes in the transom to mount misc. transducers and stuff instead of using those neat little hard plastic boards and only drilling two holes per board. and the dealer had about 600 pounds of tongue weight on the hitch!! oh ya and none of the 4 air ride seats worked when i got it because no-one took the time to adjust the screw that activates the ram.

I agree on the Ram mounts Brad. I was talking about the Cabela's or similiar with the low profile. The RAM mounts seem to have a bit of a stand off from the mounted location. The ones that I was talking about that are flush bases mount within 2 inches or so of the gunnel when installed. I too may be purchasing the Ram mounts. I just wish I could have won a couple!

I have a few pics. Brad.
We custom rig almost every boat we sell.
Have done many a seminar on this topic.
The biggest things to remember is how and when each item will be used, and in conjunction with what other items...then make them not interfere with each other.
A well rigged boat makes life on the water fun. A badly rigged boat is a pain in the butt!
E-mail me... I'd be glad to try and help.

I have rigged all of my own boats. I have a dealer that is glad to let me do so. In fact if a dealer would not let me rig my own, they wouldn't see any of my money. I have worked with the dealer on setting up the boat when prop selection is involved and I must say my satisfaction has been great....Why wouldn't it it is the way I want it...I'm not saying everyone should do this, but I get much more enjoyment out of the boat when doing so. I went to the factory and watched one of my boats being made, that was great. (It was a glass boat, some time back.)
Happy fishin'

I did, thanks. Kind of hard to see with the boat sitting on it. Did you just have your local dealer install those?

Thanks again!!
