Looking to long line troll with no added weight and get down to 30', occasionally 35'. What would be the best crankbait for this purpose? Thanks.

I like the Reef runners best as well as the Rapala Husky Jerk.In the past I have also had good luck on the Storm Deep Thunderstick Jr.Depends alot on where you are fishing.Theres a lot of good ones on the market.Don't even start with colors!

Harve,my best advice to you is go out and buy the new 6th Edition Precision Trolling book.It will list all of the popular crankbaits and how much line you need to reach your desired depth.Example to reach 28' using a Reef Runner deep diver you need to let out 200'of line using 10lb test.To reach some of the depths your talking about you need to use snap wieghts. The book will so you how to calculate this as well.If you troll this is your bible.$24.99 @ Gander Mountain, they just came in.Hope this helps.

To get down to 35' with no additional weight, we use the Mann's Stretch 25+ and the 3/4 oz. Hot Lips from Luhr Jensen. A word of warning: You may want to do some forearm exercises before spending a day long-lining these baits. They are a *load* to reel in.

Try using lead core line. Then you can probably get most of the cranks you already own way down there.
Just a thaught.

I've had very good success using Risto Raps & Rattln Fat Raps in the larger sizes(#'s 8 & 9)tied onto braided line. Either Fireline or Spiderwire in 10# test. Can feel them bumping along the bottom at 30-35 feet.
Harve,
Get yourself some Fireline and a copy of Precision Trolling by Mark Romanack and Steven Holt. There are TONS of crankbaits that will get you those depths. And they are all listed in the book. Along with the amount of line you need to let out to get them down to the depths you want. I got mine off the web site at www.precisionangling.com . This is a great book. My old one (edition 4) is well water and weather worn. My new one is edition 6. It has cranks that were not yet out on the market when the 4th edition was published. The dive curves for each crankbait is very usefull. My opinion...........Buy It.
