A friend of mine growing up had a 12' sears with a 9.9 on it and it worked pretty good. I dont know anything about the Nissan motors though.

I've got a 12' alum duck boat, not Sears but semi-vee rowboat style, and it is rated for a 7.5 hp, i believe. A 9.9 would sure scoot that boat, and may be too much.

i had a 1970 i think sears 12ft semi v bottom boat. i had a 6hp merc on it. this set up worked well but it didnt have the power to get it up on plane with one person in it. i had to have a counter weight to get going. but i belive another horse would have made a big differnce in the way it ran with one person in it. and besides that i aint a brave man and a 12ft boat on plane is about like being on plane in a bath tub. and the nissian motors a great little motors. i have never owned one but i know alot of folkes that do and they wouldnt trade them for any other name on the market. dave
